Ubuntu Channel Alliance ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of our website visitors, prospective learners, partner organizations, and all other contacts. This notice explains what data we collect through our interest registration forms and website, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Data Controller
Ubuntu Channel Alliance Inc. is the data controller for all personal data processed under this notice. We are a California nonprofit public benefit corporation recognised by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. Inquiries may be directed to info@ubuntuca.org.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal data through the following channels:
Learner Interest Registration
When you complete our learner interest form, we collect:
- Name and email address
- Country and province or region
- Current employment status and IT experience level
- Areas of program interest (pathway preferences)
- Device and internet access information
- Available study hours per week
- Optional motivation statement
- Privacy consent and marketing preferences
Partner Interest Registration
When a representative of an organization completes our partner interest form, we collect:
- Organization name, type, size, and website
- Primary contact name, title, email, and phone number
- Partnership type and geographic focus preferences
- Annual IT hiring volume (if applicable)
- An optional message describing your interest
- Privacy consent and marketing preferences
General Website
- Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, referring URL) to understand site usage.
- Information submitted through the general contact form (name, email, inquiry topic, message) is processed by our server and email delivery provider to send the inquiry to our team and enable a reply. If delivery is unavailable, the form shows an error rather than a success confirmation.
- When you allow optional analytics, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google, to understand how visitors use and improve our website. GA4 may process page views and page paths or titles; browser, device, and technical information; approximate geographic information provided by the analytics service; and interactions such as scrolls, outbound link clicks, successful learner or partner interest registrations, donation-option interactions, and clicks on our public email links. Our manually generated page-view URLs omit query strings and fragments. GA4 may use analytics identifiers and first-party cookies, including
_gaand_ga_<container-id>, when analytics is enabled. We store your analytics choice in local storage in this browser so we can remember it; that preference is not itself sent to Google. UCA's custom GA4 event parameters are designed not to send names, email addresses, phone numbers, form-field contents or free-text submissions, bank account or routing details, UCA authentication or session information, admin information, or other intentionally submitted personal information to GA4.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected data for the following purposes:
- Learner interest: to notify you when formal program applications open; to inform cohort planning and program design; to assess geographic and demographic needs.
- Partner interest: to follow up with your organization about partnership opportunities and determine mutual fit.
- Marketing (with your consent): to send occasional updates about Ubuntu Channel Alliance news, milestones, and events. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
- Website analytics (only when you allow it): to measure website usage and selected interactions so we can understand and improve the website.
- Operations and legal compliance: to maintain records as required and to respond to inquiries.
We rely on legitimate interest as the lawful basis for processing interest registration data to advance our charitable mission, and on consent for marketing communications.
4. Data Sharing and Employer Neutrality
A founding principle of Ubuntu Channel Alliance is Employer Neutrality. We firmly state:
- We do not sell personal data to third parties.
- We do not share prospective learner data with potential employers, sponsors, or technology vendors without your explicit consent.
- Sponsor and partner reporting uses aggregate, anonymized data only (for example, summary information by region), unless you have explicitly opted in to individual disclosure.
- Google Analytics 4: Google provides this analytics service and receives website measurement information only after you allow optional analytics. See Google's Privacy Policy and its information about safeguarding Analytics data.
- Our email delivery and database hosting providers act as data processors under written agreements and may not use your data for their own purposes.
5. Data Retention
Interest registration records are retained until either: the program concludes its initial intake process; you request deletion; or a statutory retention obligation requires otherwise. Marketing consent records are retained to demonstrate compliance.
6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including encrypted data storage and access controls limited to authorized personnel. No internet transmission is entirely secure; if you have concerns, you may contact us by post.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your personal data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw marketing consent at any time
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at info@ubuntuca.org. We will respond within 30 days.
You can change your optional analytics choice at any time. Choosing Decline stops subsequent UCA GA4 measurement and removes accessible GA4 first-party cookies set on this website. Use the Analytics preferences control in the footer or below.
8. Children's Data
Our program is designed for adults (18 years and older). We do not knowingly collect personal data from persons under 18. If you believe we have done so inadvertently, please contact us for immediate deletion.
9. Changes to this Notice
We will update this notice as our program evolves. Substantive changes will be announced on this page with an updated date. We encourage you to review this notice periodically.
